DIHFS opened its doors at 2880 W. Holden Place on November 22, 2017. The evening before our move, I stopped by the new clinic. It was getting dark outside, and I wanted to do one final walk before movers made their mark on our freshly renovated clinic. I was exhausted, it had been a long two years of planning and knew there was still a lot of work ahead of us. For many of our staff, their work in this project had recently began.

On the heels of the 9HealthFair that weekend, Thanksgiving the next week and the holidays following, we were on our final push to get into our new space. Alone in my walk, I stood at the beginning of the hall and marveled at the shiny waxed floors and freshly painted walls ahead. I envisioned what this meant to our patients and the services we would provide at this beautiful facility, which is a medical home to many people in our community. I reflected over my last 10 years at DIHFS and how hard the last two years had been, beginning with lease negotiations, architectural planning, contractor bids, rezoning issues, construction and design and not to mention the regular duties of maintaining the daily rigor of running a health clinic.

As I journeyed through the clinic, I was reminded of how we were able to make this vison possible. The apprehension of construction and expenses were eased by our generous sponsors, which includedMercy Housing, Colorado Health Foundation, Caring for Colorado, University of Denver, Delta Dental,Henry Schein, Wells Fargo, Fuller Real Estate and The Colorado Trust. As I completed my walk, I was deeply honored that these reputable sponsors invested in the future of our clinic and the future of the community we serve.

In 2018, we celebrate 40 years of service in our American Indian/Alaska Native community. We recognize and thank all of our leaders from the past, present and future, and look forward to continued growth, expanding services and meeting the needs of our community. We have been in our clinic for four months now and have scheduled our Open House, Wednesday, April 18, 2018th from 2pm to 4pm.

We won’t feel settled until we invite our stakeholders to participate in the blessing of our clinic and special recognition to our sponsors and our community.
