RMICC - What is MIE’s Connection to Indian Country?

MIE Business Solutions is a family company; named after the daughters of Ben and Alvina Earnhart (Madison, Izzibella and Ellynor), the vision for MIE is to create opportunities in Indian Country, wherever possible. The foundation for this vision was formed on Alvina and Ben’s personal experiences.

 

While working as a federal Indian law attorney, Alvina Earnhart (Navajo) experienced first-hand the difficulties that Tribes and tribal enterprises face when working toward self-governance, self-sufficiency and economic success. Frustrated with companies that are driven by money and all too often take advantage of tribes, tribal enterprises and Indian-owned businesses, Alvina and Ben saw an opportunity to make a difference and to serve as an example of what businesses should do in Indian country. Their vision was to establish a company that could offer solutions on keeping money on the Reservation, establishing sustainable businesses that are aimed at becoming 100% tribally-owned and ultimately, helping every tribe, every tribal enterprise and every Indian-owned company save money.  They also wanted to give back to the local communities of every Tribe they had business dealings with. 

 

For the past 6 years, Alvina and Ben have been operating in Indian Country working to provide resources, solutions, products and services in a variety of different industries and verticals to Tribes, tribal enterprises and Indian-owned companies. 

 

In 2013, Alvina and Ben were introduced to Xcel Companies, an organization that was driving down the cost of every day products and services used by every company.  Xcel was doing this through a very unique model that cut out all the middle-men and leveraged economies of scale to afford better pricing.

 

Alvina and Ben immediately saw the potential value this could bring to Indian Country.  They signed on as the exclusive Indian Country partner with Xcel and other industry partners.  Since then, MIE Business Solutions has been testing out the Xcel model to make sure it works as promised and after 2 years of validating they have discovered that it works exactly as promised!

 

In September of 2015, Ben and Alvina decided it was time to take MIE Business Solutions to Indian Country.

MIE provides 10% of their gross income back to the local community of the Tribe, enterprise or business that they are providing the products/services to.

Mrs. Earnhart is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and President and Owner of MIE Business Solutions. Mrs. Earnhart is a licensed attorney and currently practices in the areas of federal Indian law; tribal government; tribal court and federal court litigation; administrative law; legislation and code drafting; energy and natural resource law; environmental law; commercial and business law; wills, trusts and estates; housing and taxation law. Mrs. Earnhart has considerable experience in tribal constitutional and tribal code revisions, tribal oil and gas development, including NEPA, permitting and regulatory compliance under federal environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, and representing clients concerning internal tribal governmental disputes.

 

Mrs. Earnhart received her Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado and her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and American History from the University of Denver. Mrs. Earnhart is licensed to practice in the state of New Mexico, Cheyenne and Arapaho Courts, Yankton Sioux Tribal Court and Ute Indian Tribal Court. Mrs. Earnhart is of the Red House People clan, born for the Folded Arms People clan. Her maternal grandfather is of the Meadow People clan and paternal grandfather is of the Black Streak Wood People clan. She was born and raised in the community of Coyote Canyon, New Mexico. She graduated from Tohatchi High School with honors. She is a Chief Manuelito Scholar and Navajo Nation Corporate Scholar.

 

As President, Mrs. Earnhart oversees the MIE projects to ensure strict compliance and quality control, retains the services of experts and other consultants as needed, and serves as Lead Counsel for MIE Business Solutions.

 

 

Benjamin Earnhart, CEO

Mr. Earnhart is the CEO for MIE Business Solutions. Mr. Earnhart is a licensed Insurance Broker and is also the owner of Tribal Shield Insurance. Mr. Earnhart has over 11 years of experience in the insurance industry, and over 15 years of experience in the areas of sales and business development.

 

Mr. Earnhart received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was inducted into the Honors’ Study Program, worked as a coordinator for the Disability Access Center and volunteered with Big Brothers of America. He obtained advanced training through the National Alliance and Regis University. Mr. Earnhart is also the Director of Tribal Relations for the Xcel Companies.

 

As CEO, Mr. Earnhart oversees the development of MIE’s programs, partner management and is responsible for overseeing operations.

Eric Benavidez, Business Development Director

Mr. Benavidez is a registered member of the Santo Domingo Pueblo in New Mexico. Over the past 6 years Mr. Benavidez has been a Senior Director for Legal Shield. Mr. Benavidez serves a wide array of tribal clients. Mr. Benavidez has served as Chairman for the Santo Domingo Pueblo Head Start Policy Council and has over 10 years’ experience in Business Development/Management both in Direct Sales and his previous career as an Architectural/Engineering Draftsman. Mr. Benavidez believes in giving back to the communities in which he does business with.

Mr. Benavidez oversees the development of new business opportunities for MIE.
