Simon Moya-Smith, a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation, is a writer and activist. He has written for NBC News, The Denver Post, the Rocky Mountain News, Westword Denver and Indian Country Today Media Network, among other networks and publications. He has been a guest commentator, speaking on behalf of contemporary Native American issues, on Al Jazeera, Native America Calling, and has also lectured at numerous universities around the country, including Yale University, Columbia University and the University of Denver. He has a Master’s Degree in Political Journalism from Columbia University in the City of New York and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado Denver. He lives in New York City.

What’s your name? (tribal affiliation?) Simon Moya-Smith, Oglala Lakota

 

What city do you live in now? New York City

 

What was the last film you saw at the Cinema? The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

 

What is your favorite TV Show? Parks and Rec.

 

What do you usually have for breakfast? Huevos Rancheros if I'm in Denver.  Soft boiled eggs, bread and jam if I'm in New York City.

 

Favorite item of clothing? My underwear.

Goal you have for yourself? To be 6-foot-2 one day.

 

Are you a morning person or a night person? If my  response if "Midnight" would that confuse anyone?

 

What did you wan to be when you were little? Bigger.

 

First song on your music playlist? Radiohead's "Everything in Its Right Place."

 

What's the most unusual job you've ever had? I cleaned a pool hall before the legal age to work.

What's your favorite travel destination? (been there or want to go) Nantucket.

 

What characteristics do you admire? (in self or others) Liars who can lie very well, yet admit it when they're lying because deep down, they're good people.  And lawyers.

 

What makes you laugh? Accidental nudity.  Or purposeful nudity.  OK, nudity.

 

Describe your perfect day off. I wake up at 6 p.m. ...And do it all over again.

 

Favorite museum? Haven't been to it.

 

Wht interest haven't you pursued, but have always wanted to and what draws you to it? Being knighted by the Queen of England, so I can tell people I'm noble noble savage.
